It Finally Happened !!!!!!

Who ever said that these cars were expensive, ha. I finally did it, I know, I just could not leave well enough alone. I bought my 2000 2.7L Boxster from a dealer last summer with 43K miles. I felt I got a good deal at the time as it seemed in very good shape and I paid 21,000.00 for the car out the door.

It has happened, I have spent more messing around with the car than the car cost me, and in less than a year!!!! Some of the cost was for things the car needed, most were not. The car looks and runs great, but it is still a 2000 2.7L boxster. Here is the list of my debauchery:

250.00 deambering
600.00 new plastic rear window
4500.00 TTP headers/100-cell cats/new oxygen sensors
950.00 30K service
700.00 new windshield
1200.00 new tires
1000.00 new rims
2500.00 TTP cold air intake, custom 2.7L Autothority chip
2000.00 upgraded stereo, outboard JL Audio Slash amps
575.00 new shift cables (dealer recommended, did not really need them...)
650.00 new brake rotors and pads
325.00 new MAF sensor
300.00 5mm wheel spacers
2300.00 new clutch with new lightweight flywheel
100.00 replacement wind deflector
100.00 module to allow top down while moving
200.00 Braille lightweight battery
450.00 new alternator
2400.00 Bilstein PSS9 coilovers (really great)

I think that comes to 21,100.00, or 100.00 more than I paid for the car, I guess I am going to have this car for some time now.....

Wow Ed, that is pretty amazing! I have read some of the other posts previously as to how much they have spent and whew.....I don't think I would want to tally it all up when it's all said and done. I think I might lose consciousness...and I'm not even anywhere near your total or the total of some of the other guys out there....

I do have to say that this is the first time (probably because it's the first time I've owned a Porsche) that I have spent so much on a car VOLUNTARILY! But, I do have to say that it's been a hell of a ride so far!!!

LOL damn, i take it that you are NOT an accountant... :) You could have used that 42,100 to buy a 02 996 with all that stuff you bought for your boxster

You Go Boy !

I mean what else were you going to spend your money on . . ..
  • Little Bobby's Orthodontics? (naw he looks fine, and that double set of uppers might come in handy)
  • Suzie's college fund? (I bet her friends at Burger King would be able to get her a job)
  • Wife's new car? (Hey that 1976 Gremlin she drives now is a classic!)
  • Grandpa's Kidneys? (just think of all the friends he has made at the dialalyst)
Now that we have that out of the way . . . . . . . . .

Please allow me to introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
Ive been around for a long, long year
Stole many a mans soul and faith
And I was round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name

Next Mod maybe . . . . :D

"Some of those prices seem a bit high. "

Yes, they are. Some of the cost is with the high cost of parts like the german TTP brand, which are built to a high standard, but are very expensive. Headers about 1500.00, cats cost even more. The TTP carbon fiber cold air intake is 850.00 and that is not installed. Also, I bundled several things together with the costs and did not list everything, like a B&M short shift kit, that sort of thing.

When I bought the car I had about 7K that I had put aside for mods, that is what started me down the slippery slope. All I do now is enjoy the ride, and a fine ride it is, always brings a smile....

Ed, good for you. We knew already that these things are not investments. They're expensive toys for big kids. In retrospect, the only thing I'd do differently in your case would be starting with an S.

Z.

boggtown 02-01-2007 08:36 AM

Im thinking for 21,000 you could have put an engine swap in there somewhere, lol.... Hint Hint

edevlin 02-01-2007 08:53 AM

" In retrospect, the only thing I'd do differently in your case would be starting with an S."

Maybe, I am not sure about that, I really like the 2.7L engine. With the weight savings inherent in the stock car, coupled with my mods, my car is over 200 lbs lighter than a stock 3.2. And with a 25 or so HP boost from the mods, this little car is pretty quick.

The chip also gives the car a extremely flat torque curve over 2.5K, and that coupled with the lightweight flywheel, make it very responsive to the throttle. I can get into plenty of trouble if I want with the little 2.7L. And for those long road trips down south, I get over 30 mpg..... I need to pay for those mods somehow, ha

Ed

Didn't you sell your orignial wheels and tires? I think you can deduct your income from that sale from your total expenditures.

We started out with similar cars at a similar price (I paid $21,250 for a car with 30k on it last March.) I've been bitten by the mod bug too - just not to the same extent. It's an addiction isn't it? It seems that every time I add something the Boxster is new again.

Rail26 02-01-2007 06:42 PM

I want to do a $124,000 mod to my Boxster...it is called a 997 Turbo!

djomlas 02-01-2007 06:46 PM

thats a lot of money. now sell it for kbb price LOL ;)

jwilson95 02-01-2007 07:02 PM

edevlin-

wow, maybe we shouldn't get together. I might catch "mod-itis" from you!!

Jeff :)

pecivil 02-01-2007 07:21 PM

dont even get me started..

do it ed, do it

it is worth it ed, it is worth it

come on guys......chant with me

3.4
3.4
3.4
3.4
3.4

trust a fellow modaholic ed......you think your car is quick enough with the 2.7

IT ISNT!!!!!

when you feel 70 to 100 go by in the blink of an eye, you can never go back

z12358 02-02-2007 03:30 AM

If Ed does spring for the 3.4L conversion that would make a brand new (07 3.4L) 987S look like a bargain -- which I think it is, either way.

Z.
