Definitely recommend the rear speakers over nothing at all, it gives good fill. You really need the Storage Box because the kit(s) were made for them. Here is a pic of mine with the rear speakers installed they are behind the grills on either end. Originally, the Storage box contains two open cubby holes which you remove to accept the speakers and grills. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Jim were you the one who told me to put some type of filler behind the rear speaker to help the bass response? If so what material is it supposed to be?

Yes, adding some spun polyester batting in the enclosure behind the speakers will have the effect of reducing sympathetic vibrations from the storage box and also make the speakers work as if they were in a larger enclosure. You can get the batting at any sewing or upholstery shop, or even at a PetCo because the exact same stuff is sold there as bulk filter media for aquariums for about $2. You place the batting behind the speakers and then enclose the bottom with some thick (I used 3 mil) plastic w/ the Glue Gun. This adds some (albeit minor) suspension to the speakers as well as containing the batting and keeping critters out. Here's a really bad pic from my 1MP digicam. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... OEM rear speaker
thanks for your info this was a big help.
two more questions my car is a 2001 does it matter what year the box is coming from or are they all the same last question my car has gray carpet if I were to buy a speaker box that has black carpet would it look bad my interior is black and gray already thanks |
I installed the factory speaker set a few years ago, and I was wondering how much a difference putting in the batting makes on the sound. Bascially, is it worth my time to remove the rear shelf just to install the batting?

I think the black will look fine with gray as long as there is some other stuff in the car that is black. |

Well it does make a difference. How much is pretty much subjective. There are numerous reasons to remove the Box from time-to-time, get the materials (only a couple bucks) and do it then, takes maybe 20 min. max. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
