Ripped plastic rear window.. Please help!!!!
Ok guys I really need your help on this one. Last night I put down my convertable top(without bending it manually) and it ripped! So I rolled it back up and looked at my rear plastic window and it had a tear in the middle, about 7 inches, but I didn't measure. Anyway I am so pissed off right now. Can anyone help me out in how I would go about fixing this???? It's a 2000 Boxster. Does anyone also know of a place or person that can fix this for cheap??? I live in the San Francisco area in California (in Walnut Creek to be exact)??? Any help would really be appreciated. I feel so stupid right now! Thanks guys.
Kenny

OMG I'm so sorry to hear that! Why, nobody has told you about the chop procedure, I guess it's kinda late for that one
I don't think you could replace just the plastic alone. Try GAHH Tops. I know one of the member here just recently replaced theirs. The plus side of your situation is, at least it's your chance now to get the glass rear window.
BTW..If you are going to the one that Travis has suggested, call me, I would go with you and bring my box too

I would just call them and ask, it was awhile back for me and it was similar situation but different car and I had the car broke into and they cut the top and then keyed the plastic window.
They replaced the window with a nicer tinted window and sewed the rip to where you could not tell (well from 1 foot or so away).
I think I paid about $300.00 or so, but you also have three other options:
- GAHH Top with Glass -------- $1500.00 (approx)
- GAHH Top with Plastic ------- $700.00 (approx)
- Duct Tape ---------------------- $5.00 (approx)
Ok the last one was a joke, trying to bring a little humor to a bad situation.
If it can be done the guys at Bascom can do it.

I just called them and some guy named Brett quoted me $900 installed for plastic and $2000 installed for glass. Yikes!! I didn't think it would cost that much? Anyone have anwhere else that may be able to do it cheaper? Or any other suggestions would greatly help. Thanks a lot.

Or use the 3rd option for now I know CJ has that problem for awhile but not sure if he get the plastic fix already.
*If you are going to use Travis 3rd option, It is called Silver Racing Stripes (SRS) not duct tape
I will ask around and If I find any, I ill post it up or PM you...

Did you tell Brett that all you wanted was for them to sew in a new plastic window?
Those prices quoted were for a new top, and I might add not bad at all for a new top installed.

Dang, a write-up and photos, i didnt think of doing that cause i was trying to get it over with as soon as possible, All i used was a PDF scan that someone on renntech.org made for me from his bently manual but even that was alittle vague at times. I mean i was lost afew times so a write-up coming from me wouldnt have been that good, but if someone in the Los Angeles area desides to buy a top and needs help, i would be more than happy to make the drive and help the individual with the install since i remember how todo it and hav the tools.... then maybe then the write-up can be done.
