Rear Spolier Issue

Hi guys,
The rear spoiler is making a rubbing sound when coming up, but upon inspection I can’t see it rubbing anywhere. Also, when retracting back into the parked position, it doesn’t fully go back down as it used to — it sticks out about 1 inch.
I tried adjusting the part where the spoiler attaches to the car (see photo), hoping that would fix both the rubbing noise and the spoiler not fully seating back into position, but it didn’t solve the issue.
It seems like some sort of alignment issue perhaps? Has anyone here experienced something similar or have any clue what might be causing this?

Best thing to check is to take the spoiler of (push plastic rivets in and take the painted strip off, then remove the metal part held by two allen bolts) and check whether the individual posts move up and down smoothly. If so, build it back up and check again. If it makes the sounds again, you might need to do what I did (or others might have better ideas);

Get the spoiler to sit well (left right mainly) and tighten one side down fully, the other hand tight. Check fit and movement again. If all is good, remove the hand tight bolt, apply loctite and put it back in. Maybe slightly more than hand tights, but you'll be relying on the loctite from here on.

What I found to be the issue in my case was that torqueing down the allen bolts put the post under stress (moved away due to the bolt / ring movement). It was always ok when hand tight, always an issue when torqued. I now have a smooth spoiler again.

I squirted some lubricant on the chrome shafts when mine was acting up years ago. Took care of everything.

Do you happen to remember what lubricant it was @bill ladd ?

It’s actually not that much effort to take it completely apart, clean it and re-grease it. That’s the best approach, and it’s done in two hours. But interesting hint about the alignment, maybe I was only lucky.

Don’t remember, but probably a silicone spray.

Mine took a few seconds. Been flawless for years.

I ran into the same problem not too long ago, after having the bumper cover repaired and repainted.

As other have noted, I resolved it by removing the cover and the piece underneath, and then putting it all back together while paying close attention to the gaps.
