Windshield Polish
https://youtu.be/1ja1Kp_GZvc?si=_cO0Xg_xzJOyA_7c
Has anyone used the technique shown in this video for polishing the windshield on their Boxster? My car has the original windshield and after over 150,000 miles of driving, it could use some help. I own a dual action polisher, and my only monetary expense would be for the polish. My concern is that I don't want to damage my windshield. Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions. |
I can’t see that it isn’t worth a shot, particularly as you already have a DA machine.
The pads that he links to are from Griot’s Garage, FWIW. |
I did not watch the vid, but I bought this product and it definately worked. Used it 2x and visability has improved a lot!
Sorry, missed it. You are looking for a product that is suitable for glass. |
I'm sure it does an "OK" job....but in my case, for my 28 year old original window, I'm going to just have a new one installed.....not too expensive. IF I pay out of pocket Safelight quoted me just a few hundred dollars, The only issue would be to supply my own rubber gusset to safelight purchased from Pelican.
Seems that most Safelight shops never stock the proper original rubber gusset. |
A word of caution. Safelight windshields suck. Mine is probably 5 years old now and looks about as bad as the OE glass in my ‘03 did when I replaced it.
Pilkington appears to be a well regarded product, consider looking for a local installer who can source it. |
I'm feeling less motivated to polish my windshield.
I posted the same question on Boxa.net and didn't receive any ringing endorsements: https://www.boxa.net/topic/103471-has-anyone-attempted-to-polish-their-windscreen/ It seems like the best result I can hope for is a minor improvement. I need to balance this positive outcome against the possibility that I could make it look worse. |
I know that Safelite has the ability to obtain "factory" glass but I have no idea IF they can get it for a 28 year old car.
At this point, ANY new glass would be nicer than my 28 year old glass. My car is a summer driver only and I typically only pt about 4,000 miles on it each summer. |
