2001 997 gt3 brake booster upgrade
Can anyone confirm that this is a direct bolt in for the 2001 base model year? I have seen different things saying that different adapters and in line valves are required but I believe these are for PSM cars only? If I have no PSM then it’s a direct swap?
Thanks |
Alex, I believe that the upgrade is for the GT3 master cylinder Not the booster.

It does not work as a direct swap, as one connection is M12x1 and the other M10x1 on the BMC of a 986/996. On the 997, both connections are M12x1, but there are adapters for this.
Edit: 996 355 910 40 is genuine |
Ah sorry- yeah I meant master cylinder lol.
And ok thanks for that info. Do you have a traction control car? I’ve seen some info saying that cars without traction control of my model year may have both m12 connections. |
If you check the spare part catalogue there is no difference for the number of the BMC that MY. M476 = PSM. Have a look at your BMC, it should be obvious.
What do you want to achive withe the bigger BMC? Porsche brakes need more force from the foot, this is a feature to be able to control braking power. Provided you have the correct disc/brake pad conforguration... |
Ah ok. Yeah I want a firmer pedal feel. Already had the fluid swapped, and have brand new pads and rotors so logically I think that’s the best brake feel I can get without swapping to the gt3 master cylinder.

Change the four brake hoses (especially if those are now original some 20-years old) to braided brake hoses. This will firm up the brake pedal real nice - at least did so in my 2001 986.
