Amen!

Last I knew Zaino products are only available from Zaino and Zaino only! I beleive the detailing product that you are referring to that you can buy from a Harley store is S100(basically relabeled P21S).

If you want a long lasting paint protection product you should really check out Zymol,I really like it. It's lasted quite a few months and still looks good. When I detailed the car I kept it simple;

Wash,Mother's Pre-Wax Cleaner then 2 layers of Zymol.

It wasn't the shinniest detail job I have done but heck,I'm not argueing with how long it's last. It's outlasted the Mother's 3 step system, some Zaino products(from what Zaino users have told me) and the higher end Meguiar's products.

It's pricey for wax, about $20 but heck if you want a nice shine that last forever get it.

If you just stick with Z2 you should be fine. That is their bread and butter. They do have other stuff if you need more than just a good polish./

It says to use their Z-2 with - ZFX Flash Cure Accelerator

Is it really necassary?

kls 12-25-2006 08:24 PM

I agree with Adam. I bought their starter kit with all the Z's they could think of to confuse you with, and Z2 is the one you want. I do believe that you should follow their program; wash with Dawn and clay the surface before you apply the Z2. You can get the clay anywhere, so no need to buy theirs. They recommend the Z5 for taking out swirls, and it may help, but after a lot of elbow grease, I still have swirls.

They will also recommend ZFX, which appears to simply make the Z2 dry faster. They charge something like $20 for about 27 drops. I found if you put a coat on and wait a few hours, it drys just fine. Also, if you use the ZFX you have to mix it and use whatever you mix. Mix too much and you have expensive garbage.

will i still need to clay the car if it was clayed, waxed, polished a month ago?

The purpose of claying the car is to ensure that all wax/polish/smog pollutants/dirt/anything else is picked up off the car,so you do a clean detail job.

djomlas 12-25-2006 08:49 PM

well claying is not really picking up things, its actually fine sanding of the particles that are not part of the cars paint/clear as explained on autopia site

Perfectlap 12-26-2006 05:48 AM

claying is something people don't do enough of. Particularly with ver soft German paints. Some go right to the polish route when a good once over with clay will do.
During the life of its paint you should polish and de-swirl as little as possible.
(Which means not touching the paint when its dry and limiting your washes)
There are different grades of clay. Some very soft for monthly use and some harder grades for stripping everything down to prepare for de-swirling and polishing.
Personally I think its very bad practice not to clay before doing any type of rubbing on the paint surface. Washing alone often does not dislodge the sediments blown onto the car from the road. Once you press against the paint with a wax applicator those sediments break loose and voila--sand paper.
the most important thing to do when claying is to really flood the panel with a very slick lubricant or suds. And keep a smal soapy bucket or tray to rub the debris off the clay before you fold it for the next panel. You can get Clay Magic Blue for $10 at most online detailing sites like openroadmotoring.com or detailcity.com I often see at Pepboys as well. Sonus makes the softest clay (green) I've tried intended for frequent use.

I bet u can photoshop your car and make it shine :p

porschedude 12-26-2006 09:12 AM

I have used Z2 for years...honestly, that's the only product you need

although they will try to sell you everything else. You can get clay bar from local auto store...clay bat makes the surface baby smooth. Using Z2 is like putting a layer of glass over the car and you can put layers over layers. The shine is so (mirror-like)unbelievable that you would not want to use anything else. Be careful never to use any dish washing liquid to wash car, which can remove the Zaino.

Perfectlap 12-26-2006 10:38 AM

I agree completely, most high end polishes both clean and protect. But the detailing product companies all want to sell twelve different products to have you believe you will be at a sizeable disadvatage unles you use all of their sealants and waxes etc.
As far as paint is concerned, a good polish and a quick shine spray(I prefer anti-statics) are all you really need to keep the surface shiny and protected year round.
Believe me I have $pent allllllllotttt of time and money figuring this out.
But some people see it as a hobby and enjoy experimentation.

djomlas 12-26-2006 01:52 PM

thx a lot.

i just ordered it from their site. in the order form it asked for club affiliation, well lets jsut say i mentioned 986forum.com

ill post pics once i detail the car

blinkwatt 12-26-2006 04:40 PM

So let me get this straight before I place an order. You can use Z-2 without the ZFX accelerator kit? How many layers of the Z-2 do you guys use? Can it be topped/sealed with a carnuaba?

djomlas 12-26-2006 04:47 PM

did u read the instructions on their site how to use this? the less you use the better

Yeah I read that and also read this off of their website,a little confusing;
Z-2 Confusion
"And while a single application of Z-2 PRO™ should provide months of long lasting good looks, Z-2 PRO™ can be layered for even greater results."

djomlas 12-26-2006 04:57 PM

"NOTE: Z-2 PRO™ is extremely durable and should provide at least 6 months of protection for your vehicle. If your goals are maximum shine and maximum protection on everyday vehicles, we recommend 3-4 applications per year. For show car owners, multiple coats will provide the wettest-looking, deepest, most distortion-free finish you can imagine."

Hey Blink, you won't need (or want any) carnuaba after using the Z2. I have only used the ZFX a few times. Not really needed if you have ample drying time between coats.

I have a total of about 30 coats of Z2 and Z5 (interchangable) on my car right now.

NickCats 12-27-2006 07:45 AM

All I have used so far is Z-5 and I am very happy with the results.

bmussatti, what is the difference between Z-2 and Z-5 ?

Nick

Hey Nick:

Merry Christmas to you and "C"!! I hope you had a great first-Christmas together!

Z5 is a great project, and has a little/slight stratch cover quality to it. You can use Z2 one day and Z5 the next. They are completely compatible with each other.
