Remote key locking/unlocking

on my 2000 Base Boxster, I’ve seen a decline in the locking/unlocking remote function in both keys. Started noticing it 3-4months ago. Where at times, the remote would not work at all until I got closer to the car. The red LED on the keys was always visible. But I replaced the batteries in my 2 keys anyway. No real change. I went out of town for a few weeks last month and now the keys remote function doesn’t work at all for doors or trunk. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery and reattaching it. Various combinations of removing the key from the ignition, turning it on and clicking wildly, No luck.

Where is the device that picks up the signal? Seems like thats where the failure is. Any thoughts on the matter would be very much welcomed. Thank you.

Interesting that. If i've not driven my 00 S for a while the fob will often not work. I then unlock with the key in the lock, the alarm goes off as expected and i cancel the alarm with the fob.

If for example i was driving the car every day, like i was on hols with it or something, the fob would lock/unlock as it should, every time, no problems. Strange.
