Telescopic adjustment wont move - I'm Suck!!

Hey all,

I’m stuck trying to fix the telescopic function on my steering wheel and could use some guidance.

The issue: I’m not entirely sure how the adjustment handle is supposed to engage or release the lock that controls the telescopic movement.

I’ve attached some photos for reference. From what I can see:
  • The black rod with holes moves when I turn the handle under the steering wheel, but it doesn’t seem to engage or affect anything—it just rotates.
  • I can push the handle in and out while holding it, but again, nothing happens beyond that motion.

I’ve tried using WD-40 with no luck, and I plan to test with some penetrating oil—but I’m honestly not sure what part I’m supposed to be oiling or adjusting.

Am I missing something obvious? Would really appreciate any tips from someone who’s tackled this before.

Thanks in advance!

That sounds complicated.

Are you missing the little lever under the steering wheel that you "push down to unlock, pull out steering wheel, push lever back up to lock"? Like, literally, a two second process. Me thinks you're complicating it... unless you are trying that way and something IS wrong.

The only way I easier could describe the pedestrian process is to tell you to Google it. Seriously. You'll wonder what you were missing. Good luck.

Is the steering wheel locked or does it move freely?
