Car running RICH during warm up (pops in exhaust)
my 2004 base 986 is having a small issue. After cold start, there are pops in the exhaust (igniting fuel), but after the car idle settles (warms up), it runs fine. I have check secondary pump and it is working fine. Any ideas what would cause this? I assume if it was a plug or coil pack, it would do it after warm up as well. Car runs really well once warm.
Checked live stats and 02 sensors are running close to zero (up and down some but basically zero). HELP?? I have also noticed the oil smells of gas when the oil fill cap is removed. Leaky injector? Throttle body cleaned and MAF sensor replaced. No change. |
You should not be smelling gas in the oil, and if you do, the oil is dead and needs to be changed before the car is driven.
Most likely an injector issue, you need to check fuel trims and the injector pulse widths. |
Based on research, claims oil in gas can be common if car isnt driven much, and vapors will burn off once driven longer drives. I drive it short distances most of the time, about 1-3 times a week. Sometimes started just to move it out of garage. Wondering if that is the issue. If car didnt run so perfectly once warm, i would be more concerned. I do plan to change oil anyway.
I really feel gas isnt burning properly at warm up and some might be getting down into oil, but should evaporate once driven. What would be causing the pops during warm up??? Also, car just passed emissions a couple weeks ago, and the car has been doing this for months.i just noticed the gas smell in the oil fill cap when i removed the plate there to check my coolant bleeder valve, since i had some condensation on rear deck lid. |
