Adam, what gives the yellow color in the front bumper? Did he paint the radiators??

Whenever I have seen this conversion before, it's always with a Turbo bumper and piles of other mods. I'm a huge fan of the more subtle approach (although a 3.4 wouldn't be so bad).

I don't know a lot about the car, but I belive it's a large painted screen that sits in front of the radiators. Painted radiators would be a bad idea because it would severely affect their efficiency I would think.

Jeph, just wanted to say that your car looks great btw. Good work!

C5150 01-12-2007 08:36 PM

Jeph - I am REALLY bummed that the weather is keeping you from posting pics! I am eagerly waiting to see the results of your conversion.........

Y2BOX 01-14-2007 10:38 AM

We need pics now Jeph!

Jeph 01-15-2007 07:20 PM

The sun was out today...

I'm not pleased with the quality of these pictures. If the new front end doesn't look incredible to you, blame Sony. (My fingers were frozen while attempting to photograph the car).

Boxster or Carrera?

Ah, Boxster!
http://www.kryzak.com/storage/986-conversion2.jpg

No skirting required. The bumper flows naturally with rest of the car.

Looks incredible that you didnt get them to fill those license plate holes. lol. But seriously, it looks good.

C5150 01-15-2007 08:26 PM

Wow - unbelievable. I love the entire look - it's smiling at me...

Adam 01-15-2007 08:42 PM

Very nice Jeph. I've always loved the 02-04 carrera headlights.

C5150 01-15-2007 08:43 PM

So Jeph - hope you don't mind me asking - but any figures you can share as to your total spend for the conversion?!

98Boxster98 01-15-2007 08:45 PM

I cannot even tell what you did. Whatever it is, it's pretty subtle. ;) I enjoyed you sharing your vision and then showing the results. I like it alot, very clean lines. Care to share the body shop that did the work?

Grizzly 01-15-2007 10:14 PM

That is smokin', Jeph! It was worth the wait.

Y2BOX 01-16-2007 02:36 AM

Love the look, much more aggressive.

ohioboxster 01-16-2007 04:36 AM

SC986 01-16-2007 03:39 PM

Needless to say that looks awesome! Man I'd just like to snag a hardtop. Congrats, it's got to feel good to have it back.

djomlas 01-16-2007 03:40 PM

lets see a topless one

Jeph 01-16-2007 03:58 PM

I don't have any topless photos yet. That will take some time... a couple months perhaps (and a few glasses of wine)?

The shop I used is called GTI (German Technology Inc.). It is a great place to take a Porsche in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area! I will probably do a whole post later on how and why they rock.

I just got the paperwork today. I'm gonna have to figure out the conversion costs. Because it was an accident, there were some things paid for by insurance, some things not, and some things partially paid for by insurance. Here's what I do know. My total bill was a tad over $9,000 (my deductible was less than my tax, nice). That in no way represents what it costs to do this conversion, for there are other repairs and costs mixed in with that price that would not be a factor in the conversion (i.e. wheels, tub, hood, etc.). There were a lot of little parts to get, so that contributed greatly to the cost as well. I'm pleased with the results and my expenses were about on target. Worth the wait I'd say.

djomlas 01-16-2007 04:03 PM

that LA place sells the whole conversion for 5 grand, rite? so should cost somethign about that?

Jeph 01-16-2007 04:55 PM

LA Dismantaler is overpriced. The kit they sell consists of used parts that need to be stripped/primed/painted. And I'm curious as to how the condition of the used bumpers (which is actually a Turbo bumper) and liners would look. Also, how much would you trust a pair of Litronics from a salvaged vehicle? And according to their eBay auctions, there are a lot of parts they don't list that are needed. On top of all that, add the labor and painting that needs to be done... that 5k on used parts isn't looking like a hot deal.

jeffsquire (jephsquire would be cooler), you're too late, I've already taken Grizzly's bait... after my finances recover from this upgrade (and the Acura TL I just bought), a lowering will be required. Grizzly even forced me to get the silver hood badge! The nerve of that guy.

YOu got any pics of the silver badge? I'm just curious. Your mods are rubbing offf.

Boxter 01-16-2007 05:35 PM

They obviously paid a good deal of attention to the alignment of the panels. Looks great...

NickCats 01-17-2007 05:24 PM

Jeph,

That front end looks absolutely awesome ! Way to take something negative ( accident ) and turn it into something positive !

Congrats !

Think I should change the name of my car from "The Foxy Boxy" to " The Silver Lining?"

Jeph 01-17-2007 07:49 PM

Here's a brief video of the drive home from the shop...

Looks awesome!

I know you're not crazy about it, but I like the look of your car with the convertible top exposed.

Awesome finished product Jeph. Glad I'm nowhere near Dallas so you don't make me look bad...

Where would i buy the new style fenders to do this conversion? How much were they?

I have a Turbo bumper that is already the same color as my car and I bought 02-05 headlights. I assumed the front end was the same as the Carrera but, after reading this thread, I guess not. How much more am I looking to drop to do this conversion?

Btw, Jeph car looks spectacular!

A lot of your questions can be answered here, yellowbox.
http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9114

The fenders cost the same as Boxster's. The body shop ordered them for me.

If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a PM. I didn't do the work myself, but I'll still try to help out with what I know.
