Coolant Leak (I Think)
Guy's -
Would appreciant a Christmas present in the form of advice/Boxster education. I had gone for a nice long drive last weekend (a little spirited, but not by much) and when stopping for gas on the way home I had noticed the smell of antifreeze; I took a look at my cooland level and it was down from max but not by much and I did not notice any leak. But did notice I had the older coolant cap so I ordered one and replaced and topped off coolant. Now today I drove it for the first time since I replaced the cap & topped off coolant and it drove fine (neither time did the temp guage ever go much over 180 or any lights) and when I pulled back into my garage I notice the antifreeze smell again and this time seen maybe a cup or so leak out, I took a photo of it and it looks like a drain line?? Coolant still shows level at max. Question: Did I over fill with distilled water and when the presure went up it drained out? http://986forum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4944&stc=1 |

probably so, weather changes and that sort of stuff will cause water to over flow, My advise is to not add more water, cause that little bit you add will leak back out.
When you look into the reseviour you can see the location where extra liquid is directed to the over flow tube. Its alittle different from your average radiator cap where the pressure has to lift the spring sealed rubber seal to flow into the over flow tank. Ours is simply once the level rises to a certain height, itll spill out to the floor outside via the overflow tube. |
