Fuel sender leak or gas tank leak?

I checked all the lines and didn’t find any leak. The only sign of leak is at the top of the tank / sender.
There’s a strong smell of gas in the cabin. I replaced the sender’s gasket, but the smell of gas persists. I noticed that the connectors show signs of leak. Do you think is worth to replace the connectors or I need to replace the sender?
Please look at the pic before I replaced the gasket.

You more likely have an EVAP system problem...............

JFP, I've come across a couple bad charcoal canisters recently. Would that be a likely cause of this? Is there a troubleshooting procedure for the evap system for someone like this without a Durametric or advanced test equipment?

On the 997 I was able to actively control the bleeder valve to test it with durametric, I don't know if this is possible on the 986, only the US versions have the canister ...

Probably age more than anything else. When gas evaporates, it leaves behind a varnish like material that builds up over time, blocking lines and locking up the control valves. Diagnostic's are simple: are the lines clear and do the valves function.

1 - EVAP canister purge valve

2 - EVAP canister

3 - Purge air

4 - Tank

5 - Pressure sensor

6 - Shutoff valve

7 - Operating purge valve

8 - To intake manifold

9 - Vacuum control valve

George, one day my wife's Volvo S60 started to have very strong fuel smell inside the cabin (the fuel tank is underneath the rear seat), and after removing the entire float assembly, I noticed a hairline crack on the white molded plastic piece (the main piece that holds the connectors and the breathing hose on your picture) After I replace that piece the smell went away.

Please note that on the Volvo, fuel tank there are two inspectiond covers, one at each side of the tank, one for the fuel pump and the other one for the float assembly, but I believe that on the Posche, that white plastic is the base for the fuel pump and float assembly, therefore you may have to install a new fuel pump assembly.. Good luck!

Thank you Gilles. That's what I'm afraid of. I'll inspect it to see if I need to replace it.
