Window Regulator Question

I have a '98 Boxster and the driver's side window doesn't drop enough anymore when I open the door. I do hear the motor when I pull the handle. I tried the zip tie trick to tension the wire, but it didn't solve the issue. So I believe I need a new window regulator. I've read a lot of threads here and I believe the general belief is that the various OEM options are hit or miss. They often visually look different (so perhaps not OEM). I'm hoping this is a quick project (e.g. mark where the existing window regulator is to minimize and/or avoid having to adjust the new one). My question is...
  1. Should I simply purchase a genuine Porsche window regulator for around $300'ish
  2. Buy a used from a dismantler for around $90
  3. Other options?

Check this thread and maybe he solves your problem es well.
I would go for a used one but stick to original.

The genuine Porsche part is best, but I also recommend the URO Parts window regulator as a good aftermarket replacement. I keep a couple used ones around for 'emergency' use, but you are best off buying new rather than one that may have been in service for 20+ years.

I bought a less expensive regulator to fix the same problem. I spent all day trying to get the window to line up and finally gave up, took it out, put the old one back-with a zip tie. Its been working fine ever since, at least a couple of years.

You might want to troubleshoot why the zip tie fix did not work for you. Was it not tight enough? Did it not take up enough slack in the cable?
