Need suspension help please
Hey guys! I'm in need of some advice on how best to overhaul my suspension on my boxster.
As far as I can tell all the bushings are 24/25 years old and probably due for replacement. Looking on Pelican Parts a full front and rear set of suspension components is pretty expensive. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/2000100620HBT.htm?pn=20001-00620-HBT&bc=c&q=control%20arm I'm not opposed to paying for those parts, but I want to make sure I'm not buying things I don't need. I have fresh shocks on the car already but the suspension is still a bit clunky when going over bumps in the road. Am I looking at the correct product? Is the cause of a clunking suspension something else? I just want to make sure I'm not wasting money, ya know? |
I thought I remembered seeing similar kits closer to $800 a few years ago, but everything has gone crazy.
You could piecemeal it or find the actual source of the noise. Just because something is old doesn’t mean it’s bad. You can also find some good deals on rckauto or elsewhere, same stuff . I doubt you need every drop link and damper boots. Shame we can’t rebuild some of those parts. |
Clunky is generally one of two things, strut bearings or drop links. The drop links are easy to check. If the boots are cracked open, replace those. Cheap and easy. Strut bearings require strut removal and dissembling via the top nut. A bit more work.
I’d try tightening them first with a hammer gun. Oh, could also be sway bar bushings. You could disconnect those and drive slowly and listen if noise goes away. Also cheap and easy to replace. |
You are certainly due. Maybe check FCP Euro’s options.
