I have had my '99 base Boxster for 9 years, and it's been great.
So, about a year ago I opened my top up without realizing there was a soda bottle in the back where the top had to fold. Crack- I snapped the plastic ball-joint ends of the convertible roof motor pushrods. I took those out and was able to open and close the roof manually, by pushing the dash button to raise the tonneau cover to get the roof out, and later, push the button again to tuck it away. (I am assuming "tonneau cover" is the name for the painted metal cover over the folded up roof, and not the flat fabric cover you can cover the back and empty passenger seat with, but now I'm not sure...)
But that stopped working a few months ago, and I don't know why. There was no noise or anything to indicate that I had broken it when it happened. So now the roof is stuck in the open position, and I can't budge the tonneau cover/roof cover to get it out.
I push the button, and I hear the convertible roof motor strain a bit, so I know it's getting power, but I lay off right away, so that I don't burn out the motor. I had a friend try lifting up with a steady gentle force while I pushed the button, but the tonneau cover will not budge. When I ordered the new pushrods from Rennlist, the only clue I got from the parts guy was that it might have something to do with the convertible motor relay, but I don't know what the ramifications of that might be, or next steps.
What next?! If I could get in there, I could install the new pushrods I ordered, but I can't get in there. Any ideas? Help! TIA!!
