also regarding the car being stored for the winter, is it somewhere its not accessible to test your issue with providing cam deviation values ? might be something to consider doing if it would only work for certain years and above or not at all for a 996 compared to a 986 |

Try looking at live data on an engine that has been warmed up. In the live data you can search for Cam Deviation if you don't want to scroll through all the data to find it. |
figured id drop this here as good news for the AD600s. decided to say screw it and buy one for next day delivery. setup took no more than 2 minutes and downloaded the porsche specific driver / option to try on my 1999 Boxster. i personally dont care for auto vin so i just quickly selected: manual - 986 boxster and was all set. from there i went to the live data section and searched cam. to my surprise it popped up both banks instantly. not sure what the good values are for cam deviation however mine sat at -6 even after a good drive. needless to say the AD600s is VERY easy to use and porsche 986 friendly. updating was no problem, connected to wifi took seconds, reads codes and live data really well
edit - one thing i DID notice, not a huge issue though something to consider. the OBD port doesnt sit entirely flush with the one in my boxster, meaning it was prone to disconnecting itself very easily and putting a pause to any diag. you will hear a beep if it does so thats good to know in the event that your data suddenly stops. could be why some data for people on this thread may not have been entirely accurate ? not sure just something to add. i still recommend despite that minor thing http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1734126209.jpg |

Below is the results on my TOPDON 600S when trying to measure cam deviation on my Boxster. https://i.imgur.com/eViT3p6.jpg I hope im just doing something wrong, but i dont think so ... I think this thing is a complete waste of money. |
Guys, Porsche has always used a unique diagnostic system protocol, which very few have only sporadically gotten thru. This is exactly why the almighty PIWIS system is useless on non-Porsche vehicles, just like the Durametric system. If you want to access and adequately diagnose one of these cars, you need a Porsche specific scan tool, it is the "price of admission" to working on these cars................so that means either jumping $20K for the first year for a PIWIS unit, or a couple hundred bucks for the Durametric system, there is no other way.

I'll take one of my Boxsters for a drive tomorrow to warm it up and see if I can duplicate the process I used before. The screen that you are looking at is clearly different from the one I got the readings from.

I have also reached out to topdon showing them your screenshot and mine asking what gives. I will report back if they get back to me. |
Follow this and let us know if it works differently on yours. What 'Porsche' software version is running on yours?

Thanls for doing this, your UI is completely different to mine, but i went through same streps exaactly. i will do it again and check.
In settings \i am set for metric units, i wonder if that ha anything to do with it as i am in Canada. are you set for imperial in the setup screen ?\ I will also check my version I wonder if the car is outputting different info for a Canadian car vs US car ? not likely but i am looking at all options . Thanks again.. i am also trying to get PIWIS working so gives me other options. |
Here's the startup screen on mine and yes, mine is set to Imperial Units, not Metric.

okay i have an update and it is very good news....
Thanks to 78F350 as it gave me exactly what i needed to explain to the tech support guy in China.. I sent them his images and what i was seeing. i also uploaded a log of my device. Apparently it was due to a new android version and all the manufacturers conversion files they had to rewrite because of this. They quickly sent me a patch file with the corrections and i was able to load it. I was at Porsche 2.50 and went to Porsche 2.51 https://i.imgur.com/F0E6AH2.png so now i am able to read this. I hope this helps someone in the future... and now on to the next problem. i will make a seperate post but its a good seat problem. |
