Transmission - while I’m there
 

I have plans to swap an ‘00 6 speed transmission into an 01 986S. While in there I’m wondering what else I should do? It’s been a while since the clutch was replaced so I assumed new disc and pressure plate. I thought about flywheel last clutch replacement but did not do it then so I guess now might be the time. In particular wondering about RMS, pilot bearing, throw out, the slave / master cylinder, as well as other sundries?

I had the IMS upgraded last time. Anything to check / do there?

Certainly check and refresh the rear main seal if it’s not the updated part. The pilot bearing should come with the clutch kit. I would replace the slave cylinder since it’s a cheap while you’re in there part although you will have to bleed the clutch so there is extra labor cost. I did my clutch then had the master cylinder go out three montgs later so got to do both master/slave. I don’t think it cost me more money net to repair this way but the car was out of service which is annoying. In general the IMS aftermarket bearings gave a lifespan too. I haven’t heard of people servicing their ims more than once in a lifetime but it’s worth considering if yours is one of the early single row bearing replacements. Sone of the aftermarket second generation ims replacements have been improved for longevity..

Is your current gearbox worn out?

Depending on availability you could consider a 987 box.

Not sure I understood this … yes my current gearbox is worn out, specifically synchro and I am guessing 2nd. I already have a used 986 trans I will swap in for now. Did not realize 987 transmission was even an option in this car?

As for the initial question, some of the reccs seem clear like updated RMS but I am left wondering about whether I should be replacing

1) clutch release lever and related pieces — I have not been able to find much information on this
2) slave cylinder and / or
3) transmission mounts?

4) Anything else?

I saw a couple of days ago, a used 6 speed from a 987 for sale in Rennlist
