Squealing brakes
 

Hello to everyone! I've recently purchased a boxster and it seems that when I'm going slow or reversing, the brakes squeal. The dealer had told me that 2 of the brakes were new. Could it be squealing because the brakes are new and it needs some time for it to break in? Or could there be other reasons this could be happening? Any help will be greatly appreciated. By the way, its an automatic. :)

The noise is caused by brake pad vibrations.

Go to your local auto store and look for some brake pad (stuff), I forget what it's called. Look in the brake section. It's basically some goop you put on the side of the brake pad(the metal part), and on the shims too, if your car uses them.

It will dry to this semi-stiff layer of plastic type stuff.

Hope this helps, also, take a stiff stream of water to your brakes, it might just be some dirt lodged somewhere.

Another thing to try is taking your hose with a nozzle on it and blasting your brake pads and rotors. Won't hurt them a bit and will remove any coating of brake dust that may have accumulated there. When my brakes squeal I do this and it fixes them right up.

Now I do it every time I wash the car and I'm typically squeal free.
