78f350. That top Stellan was designing would be my top choice but that was well before I owned a Boxster. Wish he was still active here.

that's more like it - can't afford a cayman. i would argue, however, that the 986 has better lines than the 987; more curves, more true to the modern 550 concept.

I really tried to like the 987/Cayman, great exterior, but I wasn't a great fan of the interior (center console and 3-gauges dash cluster). Otherwise I would have switched to a Cayman.

I say it again, the 986 was the most versatile model Porsche ever released.

* Half a 996
* Boxster
* Spyder
* Half a Cayman with a Z-Top

And it is aging pretty well, same goes for the 996 now.

Seems a little sketchy in my opinion, but I can be wrong.

I've scoped out various hardtops, but to my eye the 986 looks better with a convertible top. But then, aesthetics are a personal thing. If someone produces a hardtop with an exterior that looks exactly like a convertible top, it might work for me. A cloudy back window would give it verisimilitude, but that might be going too far.

Oh you mean those " you can't do this with a Cayman" cars?

Not knocking the top on this thread but those plastic widows and the windows seal are butt ugly. It's also the same price a a Z-Art top with glass windows.

Personally, since I only drive mine about 1/2 the year and store it for the winter I almost never drive with the convertible top up unless i get caught in rain.

I don't like the "look" of the car (its lines) when the convertible top and the same goes for any of the hard top choices (after market or OEM). Since mine isn't a daily driver I can pick and choose the days it sees the road.
