What wire behind the alternator did the mouse eat?

2002 986 S

Threw codes for Knock Sensor Bank 1
Oxygen Sensor bank 2.

Some other code I can't remember.

I've been having ongoing issues with mice. It's horrible. I don't want to get into that discussion. Living in the country sucks sometimes.

Anyway, I can see this wire(s) eaten at the connector behind the alternator. Can anyone tell me what the connector is, and whether it may be possible to splice some longer wires into it, to reconnect to the wiring harness? If not, if it is a totally sealed connector, can I order one somewhere? I want to know before I pull the alternator out, which disables the car. If I need a new connector, I'd like to have it at hand before I start taking stuff apart.

The picture with the red circle is where I'm pointing the camera through, to see the eaten connector. The second picture is the best I can get pointing the camera through the tiny space.

edit, having trouble uploading images. will be in subsequent posts in this thread...

The connector in the picture is the knock sensor. I don't think that you'll be able to re-use that connector. A couple people have posted threads about replacing that and I think someone did buy a new connector. I have a partial engine harness that I think still has at least one of those. If you have a U.S. address I can cut it with several inches of wire for you to splice back on and mail it.

***Note, There are two knock sensors, the other is on the other side of the engine and likely in the same condition.

Like most wiring connectors in these cars, with the correct tools, that connector can be "de-pinned" and reset with either new wires or the remains of the factory harness. The process is time-consuming, but the results are perfect, leaving the harness looking factory.

Ah, thank you for that. Makes sense now. This is the knock sensor on the passenger side of the engine. The driver's side sensor is fine, I was able to get to it by removing some intake stuff. Mouse did eat the air conditioning compressor wire, but I was able to splice that. Mouse also peed over everything, so car smells like rodent pee. Anyway, I'll send you a PM.

OK, thank's for that info. If I can't get a hold of another connector, I'll do this. I've done it before, it's kind of a pain, but not that bad in the grand scheme of things, especially since it only looks to be 4 (?) pins.

I received the pm. I'll get a look at the connector tonight and see if there's any ID on it. I can also have it in the mail tomorrow. I know that I have at least one that's easy to part with.

I received the address (update). I'll send tomorrow. I have kept way too much junk from the 20+ 986s I've bought and mailing it is easy here.

Edit: My wife mailed it on Tuesday. I'm guessing it will be there by Monday at the latest.
