While I'm in there suggestions needed.

Hey all! I recently had a post-purchase inspection done on my 2000 Boxster S and got a (frankly shorter than expected) list of things that the tech said need attention. I plan on doing all the required work myself for two reasons. First, I have more time than money, and second, I really want to have an intimate understanding of how my car works so that as more things need attending to I can continue to maintain the car on my own or can fix an issue in the case of a roadside emergency.

Here is the list of items that he identified in no particular order.
  • Serpentine belt
  • Air oil separator
  • O2 sensors
  • Right rear wheel bearing
  • Battery
  • Rear tires
  • Engine weeps oil
  • Trandmission mount bushings
  • Engine mount bushings
  • Transmission cooler weeping coolant
  • Suspension components need refresh

Obviously some of these jobs are easier than others, and I'm curious if there are any other jobs I should add to the list of things to do while I have the car open for surgery already.

Thanks!

If it's not already leaking, do the coolant overflow tank. Unless there is evidence of the left rear wheel bearing being done, might as well do them both for peace of mind. Also inspect the axles and boots. The oil leak may lead to other items, depending on where it is coming from.

The water pump is a good one to do while you have the belt off and are replacing the engine mount.
Pierburg brand pump is recommended.

I believe the overflow tank was replaced within the last couple of years. The water pump is a great suggestion! I'll add that item to the cart.

Any other suggestions?

Since you mentioned a rear wheel bearing I would replace the other ones as well (just as many miles as the one that has failed, so the others are not far behind..) it is a pain to do it but once it's done you can forget about them for a several years.

A good time to do it is when you replace the suspension components as everything will have to be removed anyway..

Good luck with your project!

ignition switch (electrical section) is the biggest bang for the buck. Under $20, not hard to do and will keep you from chasing weird crap down the road.

Do engine mount when you do water pump. Makes the WP install easy. Do thermostat at same time.

As long as you're not weight conscience, when you replace your battery, get the H8 for cars with Tip transmissions. It fits just fine and gives you additional CCA.

Do spark plug tubes and O-rings. May help with oil weeping.

While the serpentine belt is off…

….replace all of the idler pulleys on the serpentine belt.

I have seen those pulleys have a bearing seizure and start a car fire that totaled the Boxster.
