On the key side of the switch, right in the middle is a pin that you can push down and it retracts.

Does any one now what the function of this pin is.

Is it normal pushed in by the mechanical part of the key switch?

If you're asking about what I think you're asking about, when you insert the key, it is pressed. When you pull the key out, it is released. This is what tells the car to shut accessories off.

Speaking of ignition switches, what is the best brand to buy? I have gone thru a few different ones over the years, none of them seemed to last very long.
