Steering wheel and turning problems
 

I had some Dunlop tires put on my boxster, but I found out after I bought them that they were not porsche approved. When I turn to the left, there is a grinding sound. I think it is the rotors, but I am not sure. It sounds like it is metal hitting metal and rubbing. You can really feel it on the floor of the car on both sides. I think it is the rotors, but do you think it is just the tires I have on there? I am confused on what to do since I went back to the tire place, and of course it didn't act up there. Thanks

The best quick suggestion is to buy a new set of Cooper tires. Many of you have already seen the Cooper tire commercial with the Boxster. Poeple who don't know the Boxster won't tell it is a Boxster by watching the commercial. I'm sticking with my Blizzaks all year long and selling my summer ones. I hate replacing tires. I don't speed or race anyway so I will probably be good witht he snows over the summer.

From your issue description, I can't see how it could be the rotors - were you having any trouble with them before? If not, a tire change would not likely cause a problem with the rotors, unless the lug nuts were seriously mis-torqued in remounting the wheels or something else happened in the service process.

Have you tried looking in the wheel wells for any obvious rubbing marks? On the tires? You say the tires are not "Porsche Approved", but are they the correct size? If they were oversized then you could end up with a rubbing problem, but lack of "Porsche approval" should not in itself cause a problem (Porsche can't test *all* tires on each model).

If you have any more details on the problem, someone might be able to provide better guidance. It is funny that the issue would not repeat when you were at the tire shop... :(
