Replacing Seatback -- Is it doable?
Hi all.
Just picked up a 1998 Boxster Ocean Blue (3AZ) / Gray Interior with 70K miles. The driver seat bolster is cracked (a single horizontal crack all the way thru the leather, otherwise not worn at all, what you would expect for a car with 70K miles on the seats). I have a line on a gray "seat for parts" with a solid seatback and was wondering whether it is possible to swap out just the seatback and if so how hard and what the steps are. I've done lots of seat repairs before (esp. on my '73 911T) but have never worked on a power seat so I am a little intimidated as I have no idea how the power seatback function works. Is it a straightforward bolt-off, bolt on or way more involved than that? Any advice would be most appreciated. |
dghii posted excellent instructions for seat disassembly:

Thanks, looks like I am going to give it a shot.

Not too tough at all to replace the bolster and the power functions don't really complicate things at all. Given your experience, you won't have an issue.
