Need Help with '03 Glass Top on '99 Boxster - B Pillar Microswitch Issue

Hello everyone,

Background: I recently replaced the worn-out original top on my 1999 Boxster with a 2003 glass top, which I found at a reasonable price. I didn't research the compatibility before the swap, assuming it would be a straightforward installation. Although the new top is now installed and looks great, I'm facing a couple of issues that are common on the forums.

The problem (clarified): My '99 Boxster has a version A transmission, which includes a microswitch on the B pillar and another one above the convertible motor. Unfortunately, the '03 frame isn't designed to activate these microswitches. It seems that most people upgrade to a version B transmission to resolve this issue, as it has a different microswitch setup. However, I'm reluctant to spend an additional $300 when the top is "almost" functional. Currently, I need to manually hold the B pillar microswitch while pressing the open button to open the top.

The question: Can anyone suggest a solution to have the B pillar switch triggered at the appropriate time when using the '03 style top on my '99 Boxster? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I can’t speak to the problem you’re having, but I am looking for a picture of the switches at the B pillar and at the motor that tell the system the top is fully down. I can’t find either.

The Bentley mentions that the B pillar switch is only on earlier cars (mine is 2003). The manual also shows a clear picture of the switch at the top motor. Mine does not have it.

Car thinks the top is open, but not full open. Since it sounds like you’re working in this same are and have the same year car as mine I was hoping you may have some pics, or some insight. Thanks.

Edit: I found the top switch at the B pillar. It is a 3-wire plug into the driver side transmission.
