transponder

I have two keys. I have discovered the transponder is taped to the switch behind the cover. Neither key has a transponder in it. This is a 1999. Does this cause ant problems other than making it easier to steal? The locks do not work and this may be why. I have a local locksmith that can clone the transponder which means I could move it to the keys.

No, this affects nothing else. Plenty of people have done it.

I would also suggest that it doesn't make your car"easier" to steal. No one steals Porsches because of these systems (don't tell the Kia guys that!). There's no way for a thief to know that yours had been bypassed.

And btw, even with the pill bypassed, it's still not possible to hotwire our cars. The ignition sequence deserves it's own book, but suffice it to say that there are VERY few people who would be able to start your car without your key. I know this because I've converted my car to a true push button start - no key involved - and not even I could do it in under an hour and without dismantling most of the dash in the process.

My car also has the transponder taped to the ignition switch. This works just fine and hasn't given me any issues. Do keep in mind that the owner's manual states "To avoid battery run-down, always remove the ignition key from the ignition lock." which suggests that there is an increased draw on the battery when the car senses the transponder. I make a point of connecting the battery to a maintainer when I'm not driving the Boxster regularly so this hasn't been a problem for me.
