Idle control valve
 

I have a 99 boxster and think I might need to replace my ICV, I cleaned it once but am going to do a better job and check for vacuum leaks before going further down a rabbit hole. Anyway in my search for a ICV a lot of places are noting that it’s unavailable or are asking crazy prices. I’ve searched the forums a bit and google etc, but is there any definitive answer for the ICV on the drive by cable cars?

Autozone has it for $1,236. However, in all seriousness...

They're $20... $30... $40+ on eBay. That's where I'd be going.

Give yours a good soaking and dry. If not... eBay. Maybe a used one from a forum member on a junker engine.

If they have it it should be a Bosch part and at a lower price.

Rock Auto - Wells no price... and out of stock.

eBay - M A N Y, and 10x less than either Rock Auto/Parts Geek. Nothing against either provisioner... but no harm is trying an eBay off-brand. What? $20/$30/$40+? The part isn't rocket science and, if the eBay-sourced part doesn't work... no huge financial loss. :cheers:

It's still $477. I'm going to assume that because OP mentioned the outrageous price, he doesn't have money blowing out his ass.

I'm sticking with the eBay route... for no one will know there's no "P" on the part. :rolleyes:

Thanks for clarifying, if cleaning doesn’t work and I can’t identify a vacuum leak I’ll go w the eBay unit. I had seen some chat about quality control with the eBay units and I drank the koolaid and figured that may not be the ideal choice.

My ICV had a crack in the housing for the electric motor. This was on the bottom side facing down. So you will need to remove your ICV. I found the crack using a smoke machine. Given the cost of this simple device being so unreasonable, I decided to fix it with epoxy.

Another source of vacuum leak was the block of plate on the right side intake manifold, which would be the mirror to the fitting for the vacuum port for the brake booster. A simple o-ring is all that was needed. Hope that helps!

After recleaning the ICV and smoke testing the car still had a high and hanging idle. Turns out my throttle cable was as just the right angle to not fully come to a close smh. This took WAY too much time for such a simple thing. Nothing at all would have hinted that the cable wasn’t routed quite right.
Oh well, glad to have that behind me and now I have a smoke machine.
