Rear (glass) Window drooping on 03 Boxster
 

I have this problem with my rear glass window on an 03 Boxster S, the glass is original (says sekurit saint gobain).

Somebody suggested it's a glue joint on the canvas that let go. The local Porsche mechanic can't fix it, referred me to some upholstery outfit, maybe.

I wonder if I can glue it back myself. Any pointers, pictures or links would be useful. It is a bit of an eyesore right now.

It looks like the trailing edge of the fabric has pulled away from the frame. I do not know what the fix is, that part of the top is either a sewed seam, glued, or both?

Yes after watching a few videos on YT on 986 canvas top replacement I got the idea that the attachment of the canvas to the rear frame let go a bit, causing it to sag.

It seems to be held on by a combination of contact glue, double sided tape and pressure fitted rubber inlays.

The local Porsche guy (cape in m.v.) would not touch it, nor could he provide me with somebody that could at least make an attempt to look at it.

My plan is to raise the rear as far as it will go (service mode, then push the rear glass a bit further up and forward past the two seat roll bars), and then try to pull and reattach the canvas with one or multiple longish strips of 3M double sided tape.

All is about access here, and I am not sure I will be able to reach.

The other option is a canvas top or upholstery expert in the OC, but so far I did not get any useful names or pointers. It would have been nice if he had worked on Porshes before. :)

I've replaced a few Boxster tops, tops and frames etc. Not an expert but I've dealt with this issue before. Cutting to the chase, I had little luck with 3M double sided tape, even though it was referred to in top install instructions (as with 350Z tops).
3M contact adhesive did the trick for me every time.
1. Remove rubber seal from the top (go slow with seal as its $$).
2. Clean surface and top fabric
3. Instead of spraying adhesive onto top frame, get a paper plate and spray adhesive onto the plate. Use disposable paint brush (or foam brush) to apply adhesive the the top frame and the fabric. Wait a few minutes (can't remember the exact time but 5-10 minutes seemed about right).
4. Attach fabric to the top and secure while drying (clamp, tape, whatever you'd like.)
5. After adhesive cures, reattach rubber seal and you're all set!

I did not know that 3M adhesive could be handled as you describe, namely spray on a plate and then brush it on. I thought it would gum up rightaway!

Also, the 3M spray adhesive was it the green, the red or the blue one ??

Before I dive into this project, I want to make sure I have the right glues around.

You suggested a 3M spray adhesive, it must be this one ? "3M Headliner & Fabric Adhesive, 18.1 oz. Aerosol Can" on Amazon ,

which is specifically for fabric and liners. I like the fact that it is slow cure, 60min, so there is plenty of time for fine adjustments !

You suggest to spray the adhesive a paper plate and then apply it to the canvas with a disposable brush.

I wonder if there is a product out there that does the same, but not in a spray can :

Some sort of contact adhesive, maybe Goop. Or Aleene's Fabric Fusion on Amazon. Or Loctite Vinyl Fabric & Plastic Repair Flexible adhesive (1 oz squeeze tube).

Had that issue with mine some years ago. Followed the top replacement how-to to replace the adhesive strip down there. Back to normal. :)
