Guys, I need your help....after months/years of maybe, maybe not!! I am finally going to replace my standard S 17" wheels for a set of 18's....the tricky part...which type....it will be either 18" Carrera or 18" Turbo II ..... any views?
Also any photos of those wheels on Arctic silver would be much appreciated.
Cheers!! Y2BOX

Y2BOX,

I have the 18" Turbo Look / Technology

I like them better than the 996 Turbo's

I do like the Carrera 5-Spoke though...

IMO, they look plain because of the plain wheel centercaps. If he buys the painted colored crests, it will dress the rims up nicely.

Carrera wheels are a much better look, and they will probably be easier to clean. The turbo wheel seems a bit more retro since you rarely see then on the newer models - I know the carrera's are also an old style but are frequently still purchased on new vehicles.

Ditto! Mine looked drab until I put some nice colored centercaps on them... and the red calipers help a lot too. Breaks up the color behind the wheel nicely.

thanks Edevlin.....Im swaying towards the carrera 18..unless anyone has good pix of a silver Box with Turbo's?

I have been offered a set of replica carreras 18" with tyres for £900, and they will trade in my old Boxster S 17" for £200 (net £700)...seems like quite a good deal...

The Carreras are considerably lighter than the Turbos at 18". Something to consider. I dropped 100 pounds by picking these wheels and my GT3 seats.
The Braile battery should save another 50 pounds. That's like dropping an extra passenger for me.

The Carreras are also very sought after not just by 911 and Boxster folk but 928 as well. when you sell your car put the 17" stockers back on and you'll have no problem selling the 18" if they're good condition.

I think the silver caps give a nice subtle look

I would be wary of buying replica wheels. Even though they may look good to the eye, there's no guarantee of the strength/integrity matching up to OEM specs on a factory wheel.

Buy the Carrera lights....nice n simple. Don't worry about the strenght or integrity and blah blah. They have been put on sooo many boxsters, that if they were weak you would of heard about it by now. at this point, these rims are so well known, that they aren't really replica's. they are just rims that look exactly like the carrera rims, is how i would put it.

The Carrera lights are a very nice UPGRADE. As the turbo rims are pretty much STOCK.

i should clarrify...i don't see anywhere that you were considering carrera lights (aftermarket) or original carrera rims. Buy the Carrera Lights (aftermarkets).

Replica is what I read. Note that some replica wheels are heavier than OEM wheels too. Just cause they look the same....

YMMV
