Fuel Tank Plastic Nut

I set out to replace the rubber seal and plastic nut at the top of the fuel tank. Things went smoothly until I tried to attach the new plastic nut. I cannot get it started. After mashing on it with all my weight and trying to turn it I inadvertently broke the spigot on the top of the fuel sending unit. Cool. Cool. The old nut drops right on and easily spins half turn ... hmmm. I got out my calipers to measure the parts and the new one is about 2mm smaller OD and ID. It is a genuine part in a sealed Porsche bag. (??) Did I get a bad one or are these just a PITA to fit when new?

I ordered another nut from the dealer in hopes my original part is just out of spec.

If that doesn't work out, I have a couple from parts cars and can send you one in a small flat rate box or envelope at shipping cost.

New nut arrived with replacement sending unit. The new nut measures approximately 1mm smaller that the old one, and 1mm larger than the previous new one. It was snug but spun on as expected. Bad $12 part cost me $300, but my car no longer smells like a lawn mower.
