Can't get lock actuator bolts off

I have to replace my key cylinder and actuator for my 1999 Boxster, but I can't get those2- @%$^*& bolts off the side of the door.

By now they're stripped. hammered, drilled, impacted, soaked, etc.

Anyone had the same problems, and found a solution? Thanks for your help!

vice grips

Couple options:
  • EZ- Out (not likely but worth quick try if you already have in tool chest)
  • Weld hex nuts on and use socket or box wrench
  • Cut slots in head w Dremel converting into flathead
  • Dremel cut heads off completely - better access for remaining stud removal once out.

No matter path you choose... go very slow and be really careful to protect the paint so it doesn't get buggered up more.

Good luck :)

What type of bit did you drill with? I've had regular steel bits take forever where a Titanium coated or cobalt bit cut right in. I'd drill it most of the way, then pop the weakened head off with a vice grip.

X2. I've taken a couple of those out using vice grips when I couldn't find the triple square bit. They're usually not put on that tight

If using drill bits...dont use the crap from HF, they aren't worth it. Get a couple good colbalt ones. They will cost more, but they are so worth it.

What size triple square bit?

My understanding is it required an 8mm triple square bit. Just bought one, doesn’t fit great. Should it be a 7mm? Or SAE?

And are you saying the Vice grips should loosen the screws, or it is to pop them off after drilling throw them?

Use a dremel (precise) or grinder (less precise) to take the heads off.
