How to remove can manual tray under steering wheel??

How to remove this tray that is used to hold the car manual? It appears to have rivets and not a screwhead made to remove with a tool like a hex or torx.

Another great question. I've been thinking of getting rid of mine for years. Following with interest...

Been while but... it's simply a pair of a center push pin plastic trim rivets holding in place. Some come off easily enough w a quick firm downward pull on the shelf to release the plastic rivets. NOTE - I do NOT recommend this as can cause damage to the underside of dash if not done w/ an even swift pull.

Otherwise, reach up under dash and while using a mirror & flashlight to see, gently take a small flathead screwdriver and push the center pin of rivet back thru on each to release retention pressure on the 'fingers'. You can then remove pins completely w a pair of needles nose pliers in footwell. Or use a firm even downward pull on tray to release rivets and shelf entirely.

Good luck :)

I just pulled (ripped) mine off. I didn't do any damage but it's probably safer to try and release the pins.

It was a piece of cake :0)
Because of the shape of the attachments, it is safe to just pull it down.
see pic.
I just pulled a little bit, then increased the pressure and it moved smoothly out.

Easy. Don't be afraid to try it after seeing the shape of the 4 fingers on the attachment that will compress as you remove it. No damage. Can be easily re-installed and removed many times without issue.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1656639800.jpg
