Weird noise from the rear ( not a fart)

So I had a video of my 2005 running because you can hear the noise plain as day but I can’t upload it! Tried and failed multiple times so I’ll have to explain it in female talk so prepare yourselves! I start the car and it’s fine till I back out of the garage then this winding up noise starts. Not a thump or a knock. It gets higher pitched as I reverse. When I climb up the driveway the noise is still going but if I idle the noise stops. Seems to fade as the car warms up. No codes so no clue what happened. I store it in the pole barn for winter because I love it when all the neighborhood cats sleep on it’s soft roof  and this happened a couple days after I got it out and had driven it really fast a couple times to blow the fur off. I’m certain it’s not mice chewing because of all the cats. It’s awesome because my Cayenne S won’t run either so I’m a grown ass women that’s grounded yay! Any ideas on what it could be?

If it is only happening when the wheels are moving, my first guess would be the brakes. Maybe a stuck caliper or a rock wedged under the pad. Hard to say without hearing the noise though.

Manual or Tiptronic transmission?

Since it fades when the car warms up check the power steering fluid level. It will whine when it's low and the car is cold.

She has a 987 tiptonic

Juls64 03-31-2022 11:33 AM

I’ll check that thanks 😊

Juls64 03-31-2022 11:37 AM

Yep sorry I didn’t get back to you all. I have trip tronic

Juls64 03-31-2022 11:39 AM

Oh shoot I look like a complete twat because I said trip tronic 😂🤣. I’m blaming auto correct for that one

I vote for Benitom's power steering fluid theory.

Start the car cold and just turn the wheels full left to right to see if it whines or groans. If it does, you'll have to pull the engine cover and check the power steering fluid level.

I fixed it my darn self

Hi all
it was the steering/hydraulic fluid. I got sick of waiting for hubby to get to it so I watched a video and did it my dang self. I replaced the passenger side visor that his ma busted off too. I feel very proud of my achievement. Thank you all for replying to my thread 😃😉
