Airbag control module and associated bracket

This is just for my own knowledge -

Why is the airbag control module mounted to an enormous brass bracket with tamperproof nuts? It doesn't strike me as structural and it's the only brass mounting plate that I have come across in the entire car.

Look at the brass bracket. Look at a zinc coated bolt. Close your eyes. Look at the bracket again. The metal will change into steel. It's magic. ...promise.

Lol, fair enough. Then why is the bracket zinc coated steel? I can't imagine Stuttgart was anticipating rust in that area.

Probably because the VW it was originally designed for did have rust issues.

Interesting! Why use the bracket at all though? Why not just bolt it down to tunnel directly?
