New tires- question
 

Just had my shop put on new tires. They are a performance shop and along with repairing and maintaining Porsches and other fine cars they build race cars.

I had 205/50/17 & 255/40/17 on the car before and they put 225/50/17 and 255/40/17 on this time.

I had been researching alternate fitments and saw that 225/45/17 was a popular alternative for the front.

Are 225/50/17 ok on the front or will this cause any issues?

I don’t think 225/50 is proper for front, it raises the front end and you rather want slant the other way.

Short answer, no they will not cause any issues, but, they are almost an inch taller than the rears. If it was me I would get them to change them to 225/45r17, good luck.

That is not an acceptable swap. You're significantly altering the stance and balance of the car by going 225/50 up front. For a "performance shop" that's a pretty bonehead move. If you're just gentle street driving it may be fine, but I think you're gonna lose any understeer correction you would otherwise gain by going to the 225 and it could really be unsafe at high speeds where the underside of the car is now forming a wedge that will force the rear up.

I believe that the difference on the tire diameter will also affect the PSM (or ABS?) system..

Yes you're right. On rwd car you can have up to 3% diference of rolling diameter without causing any problems, I think he's just around the 3% with that tire set up. On a awd it's only 1%. If I was the OP I would go back to the shop and have them change the tires to 225/45r17, those tires are to high compared to rears, and like you said the PSM light might come on with those tires.
