Aftermarket steering wheel
3 Attachment(s)
Anyone have experience either aftermarket steering wheels or modified steering wheels. Mine is super faded and I’m either going to wrap in alcantera or I have the option to get this carbon/leather or carbon/alcantera wheel. Is this second or third wheel too overkill? I love the carbon on the wheel feels more comfortable to hold but may not “fit in”

I recently got this one from Germany. He can make it anyway you want.

That one may be alittle too aggressive for my taste I like flat bottom though I think the reason why I like what I posted is my 3 most rememberable steering wheels I’ve enjoyed driving with are a trackhawks, 2009 Gallardo and a Alfa 4c all are somewhat similar with carbon on top and flat bottom |
Everyone's tastes are different.
I like the style just not the CF or red stitching. The wheel should compliment the interior. That 1st one clashes with it. Alcantara & red stitching vs vinyl & orange lights. I would go with that type of wheel but go black leather & perf leather. That is also assuming I had a 3 spoke wheel and want to pay for doing the airbag cover or it too may look out of place if not died in the same color |

I am leaning more toward the leather and carbon but the airbag is my biggest worry I would need to figure out how to blend it. I’ve attached my pi** poor attempt at adding alcantera steering wheel cover with matched stitching. The color is too grey and my stitching is of that of a blind amputee |

Maybe a heat gun will tighten that up a bit?

it really looks like it wasnt put on with glue and sewn together. Looks like it is missing the stitching. Is this a cover you bought and are putting it on yourself?

Yes I bought it myself. It’s attatched with double sided tape on the back end I didn’t finish sewing yet I’m hoping I can glue that down before finishing. I pinched it together as if it was sewn and it still is loose so we will see |
I dont think the double sided tape is going to hold up. Usually it's glued to keep it from slipping around the wheel. The stitching you have done so far looks good.
|
IF you want to keep it and just make it darker you could try a good leather shop to re-dye it. In the corporate jets I fly we have a company that comes to us and repairs, and re-dyes the leather in the planes (seats, wall panels, arm rests etc.)......makes them look like new again!
Just a thought. |

Probably you know ...
... 996/911 steering wheels are the same as 986 Boxster wheels except that more often they were the same color as the dash, upholstery, etc. Color matching was also more common with the facelift Boxster, i.e. 2003-4. I've found Granite Grey wheel and airbag and fitted them to my 2001. Also in granite grey I have End of dash vents. Ignition switch escutcheon Shift knob and boot Emergency brake Dash speaker grilles S door pulls with gray leather I haven't decided what to do with the central horseshoe and really don't dislike it as black. Except for the escutcheon, I've found all this stuff on eBay pretty reasonably. Of course if your interior is black ... never mind. |
