2003-s 986 intake runner sleeves
 

I am changing AOS on my 2003 Boxster-S, I also want to change the intake distributor sleeve. The sleeve on right side has a nipple where a check valve is inserted. The sleeve on left of the TEE does not have nipple.

The part number printed on both of the sleeve is same 996-110-685-01. The diagram that I can find on Porsche dealer parts diagram has same part number for both the side.

Any idea on what the correct part numbers are for left and right sleeve (one with nipple and one without nipple). Please see attach picture

Page 48 & 49 of PET. You need 2 of #28 & 2 #10 Part numbers depend on the years. This is what I ordered last month for my 2000.
996-110-685-01 Rubber Sleeve $15.74 2 $31.48
996-110-686-01 Rubber Sleeve $23.45 2 $46.90

Aren't they just the same part. With one having the hole plugged that's not needed. Or am I missing something?

The one on the left has no hole or nipple. It is just a solid round piece of rubber

Seems like there is some type of stopper/bolt/plug that needs to plug one of the nipple. Porsche optimized the production or inventory so they don't have to keep two different parts. Let's see what I get from Pelican. One of the picture on PET shows 90031204201 as bolt which would plug the nipple on left side of throttle body.

This is interesting. On my 2000 base, there are no vac attachments on those boots. They're just straight 3.25" rubber boots, which you can replace with generic silicone parts from Amazon for nothing.

Does a vac line actually run to that port?

Or are you referring to the boots for the crossover tube?

Your 2000 will have them....or should. One on the pass rear (toward rear of car) that is for the one 1 check valve on the vac system. The other will be front driver that goes to the fuel rail. You can see them in this picture. Anything prior to 00 I can't say for sure, never messed with the 2.5's. I know this is what is needed on 00-03 cause I have replaced them myself in the past 60 days.

I got very intimate with mine when I upgraded to the 3.5" diameter 996 plenum. No vac lines coming off those boots. Amazingly, that 20 year old rubber was pliable enough to stretch over the new plenum without protest!

Unless I have totally ****************ed something up, which is always possible.

Now I will have to check.

I always forget all the mods you did to yours. Having messed with this on a 2000 & 2003 I know the above is 100% accurate.......on a stock engine. lol

Ok, I'm not bat **************** crazy. I traced the vac line back to the white/black check valve, which connects to the bank 2 crossover tube boot. I guess the guy who did all the other ones was on coffee break that day.

I think it is ok if it goes on bank 2. They put it on bank 1 I think to make it more of a pain to replace anything cause they like to cram as much stuff in 1 place as possible.

The two boots/sleeves on my 98 2.5 both have vacuum lines running from them. :cheers:
