2000 Boxster 986 odd sounds from the engine.
 

Hi Boxster experts,

Recently, I've heard an off ticking sound, and another occasional tapping noise from the engine of my 2000 Porsche Boxster (2.7L tiptronic). I also tend to get some smoke on startup. The car is parked on a slight incline in my driveway, but I think this also happens when starting it on a flat road.

I've read about bore scoring issues, but am hesitant to jump to that conclusion just yet as I haven't noticed any oil burn or anything unusual in the oil filler, and the oil from the dipstick appears to be a normal golden colour.

I've included videos of both the odd engine sounds and a cold start. Any advice about what might be causing the smoke, and this noise would be appreciated!
