'99 986 cupholder

Any consensus on the best cupholder solution is for the 1st gen 986?

This whole holding my coffee in between my knees while I drive to work thing is getting old quick, lol.

you allow drinks in your car? lol

Well, this is my first 986, I have a suspicion that it will not be THE 986. I'm going to try and baby it, but I'll save the true anal retentiveness for the S when I get around to it.

Between the passenger seat and seat belt buckle. Unless you use paper cup or a very large coffee mug it will sit fine.

Unfortunately, it's always a paper cup from the coffee shop. (Tim Horton's here.)

I bought one of these on eBay, the guy 3D prints them. It looks good and it works. It doesn't hold the small plastic bottles of soda very well but it does hold a McDonald's cup of coffee, which is most important.

I'm an idiot. I could print that in about 45 minutes. Never thought of using the ashtray location as a mounting point. (I have three 3d printers.) Geez, for that price I might have to design my own and start selling them. It probably takes about an hour and $0.19 in materials.

Let me know if you need any detail photos or measurements.

here is another one. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3668911

I made one that fits the pure leaf tea's since that is all I drink anyway. If anyone wants one made or either of those let me know.

I use the ultimate cupholder. It works okay and I can easily pull it out for track days: https://www.ultimatecupholders.com/index.html

I use this as well. It holds the big iced tea cups from Dunkin or Timmys (I wish we still had them around here ). But with the big cups it kind of rubs on the back of your throttle leg. Big cups work better in the passenger footwell. Unless the wife is with me then that's where her purse always ends up.

another option

My wife and I both like to take a drink along when we take trips in the Boxster so my solution was to make a open cell foam insert for the storage bin between the seats. Works well for us...

This is what I have as well, works great and is out of the way for the most part.

trilobite 05-19-2021 09:56 AM

A lot of these ideas are just fine. I think I might still try and print one of my own just to say that I did, lol.
