18" wheels and ride
I used to have a Boxster with 17" wheels and the ride was ok. Now I am getting one with 18" but I have not driven it yet. I heard that the ride is riugh. Is this trye ? Shoud I put 17's on this car ?
Thanks JT |
Jorge,
Thanks for the site, first of all. I have a 2000 S with 18" wheels; even before I changed over the stock set-up (NOT the 030 option) to H&R sport springs, the ride was "sporting" -- not harsh or jarring, and now that it's a little lower and the H&Rs are progressive in their compression, I would say the suspension is even better. Because there's less sidewall flex with 18s vs. 17, turn-in seems a little crisper. Not for a moment do I regret going with the 18s. Do you have the opportunity to drive a Boxster with 18s? That might help with your decision. John |
JSLeach,
Thanks for the feedback. I see your reasoning on the pros of less rubber to flex. As far as looks go I think 17 and 18 are pretty close in appearance. However, I thought the person selling me the car had both sets. It turns out the dealer swapped out the 17's for the 18's. Therefor, I will be getting the car with 18's. Glad you like the site. JT |
I have the 18" Turbo Looks w/the US 030 and the ride is perfect for me.......not at all to harsh on the street and great on the track.

18"
18" wheel ride is firm, but not "too" stiff. Handling is what you would expect -- World Class! However, even after 5-6 hours on hwy, you get out feeling great.
ENJOY!! Ed |
I have a BoxsterS with the lowered sport suspension (030 ?) and 18" Sportdesign as well as 5mm spacers at front and 15-17mm spacers (don't remember exactly anymore) at the rear.
Ride is awesome and far better than the standard setup. Note though that I very much like "firm / stiff" cars for track use. Mark. |
