Any Pennsylvanian residents oil change
Changing the oil for the first time in my 2001 Boxster 2.7 and I’m seeing all types of varying answers for what oil do I figured I’d narrow it down to the climate I live in. It’s going to be April now so temps below 30 probably aren’t likely until atleast November so I have like 7 months till then and I do plan on driving this car year round but will possibly put 5k miles on it till winter when I may have to change it again. For my area do you guys suggest 0w40 Mobil 1 or 5w40. I’ve used 0w40 in the past on my Mercedes

I use Castrol Syntec / Edge 5w40. We probably have similar weather conditions. But you use whatever you like. Just change it every 5K mi or annually, whichever is lower.

I live in Pittsburgh and the owner's manual specs 10w40 for this climate. However, they've updated the recommendations. Most people use 0w40, but since it tents to get cold here I use 5w40.
P.S. Don't mind Starter, he's a smart-a$$, but he'll grow on you!

I am going to probably go with 0w-40 I’m changing the oil in my bmw at the same time it takes that also so I can just get it bulk for cheap. I dont plan on driving the car in super low temps but I’d imagine toward the end of the year it’ll see 20-30f sometimes but never more than like 95f

Yep, and gosh never thought I'd say this but... I'm w Starter...
you're better off at this point not disturbing the 21+ year old oil and should just leave original stuff in there. I mean it's made it this far why mess with success.
Good luck ;-)

Unless I'm mis-reading the original post, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be the first time the oil's been changed in this car...just the first time HE'S changed it.
I'm with husker. I like Castrol.

Great responses!
My "no" was so I'd be first to say no to another oil thread.
I just picked up 10 quarts of the Castrol 0-40 since I'm in SoCal.
You guys are great!
OK... I'm going to go check on that mouse.

I also live in Pgh and have a 98 that I have always used Mobile 1 5w-40w without issue. Change the oil every summer as it is a easy. Good luck, maybe see you at the PVGP.

@Frodo - Had OP written "first time I'm changing oil in my 2001 Boxster" I would wholeheartedly agree. But he did not. Poor Boxster 21 years old and only now getting first oil change

First oil change by me, 55k miles. Last owner drove it 200 miles in 6 years oil hasn’t been changed in that whole 6 years because of no miles

Are you an English professor now?
Grammar aside, I think most reasonable readers would understand that he meant he's changing the oil on it for the first time, not that it's the first time the car has ever had an oil change.

I didn’t intend to down the rabbit hole with oil I’ve dealt with that on the Land Rover forums I was just seeing if there were locals to pa and what they were using, thank you

I'm in Central PA near Penn State. I'm using 0w 40 Mobil 1. I change late September and drive about 5000 miles per year, most during summer only occasionally during nice day in winter. I open the filter and watch for particles.

That's what I thought reading your first reply, but then you corrected Frodo so I thought you were being serious.
Thanks for clarifying! We all could use some levity, now more than ever!
