2003 Boxster S What are these intake tubes for?

2003 Boxster S Tiptronic

I was attempting to put a larger cold air intake tube in and need help identifying two tubes, both near the throttle side of the tube. On is larger and I think may be a resonator that I understand can be eliminated completely. Is this correct. I am having trouble identifying the smaller one and whether I can connect it to the new tube with some sort of fitting. Can this smaller tube be connected to another vacuum hose? Thanks!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1611199981.jpg

Did you follow it, to see where it leads to?
That oughtta be your first identifier.

Yup, just lop all that fancy German engineering off and put some schedule 30 PVC and a cone filter in there in there. Your car will sound like it has 10 more hp!

The option of lopping it off is not on the table. but redesigning the new tube to accommodate it is.
