Power Steering problems -cheap hack
There is an interesting hack to prevent power steering leakage due to over-pressurization. Apparently there is a nasty Check Valve that can stick shut.
http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/63044-power-steering-troubleshooting-help.html The fix is to eliminate it. Does anyone have the details? I presume the simplest fix is to just 'gut' the check valve ? http://www.********************************************.c om/porsche-parts/hardparts.php?dir=986-97-04§ion=403-01 Anyone got some details on how to do his and exactly where is the check valve? Auto Atlanta do not identify it in their diagram linked above. I couldn't find it on Pelican: https://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search_2016.cgi?command=DWsearch&description=c heck+valve+power+steering The other hack/ultimate fix required is to REALLY seal the joint between the Reservoir and the pump. There are lots of "O" rings offered but the real problem is the wobbly twist-to-seal fitting .It tends to be a sloppy fit and wobbles loose so even with an OEM "O" ring in perfect condition it eventually leaks.
