Restoring The Faded Once-Red Seat Belt Release Push Buttons?
Was poking around the car yesterday, and my eye was drawn to the pair of seat belt buckle receivers, down on either side of the console. Years of sun exposure, I would assume, has faded the red release buttons to a milky pink color, and now that I've noticed it, I can't stop seeing it.
Has anyone ever been able to successfully restore these buttons back to their original OEM bright red? Thanks - DM |
there is always this option (maybe not the most economical) : https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/99680318309M100.htm?pn=996-803-183-09-M100&bt=Y&fs=0&SVSVSI=1048

Back to red?
Just like everyone else, my Boxster's seat belt release buttons were faded when I bought the car. At that time I applied Mothers Back to Black to the buttons and was disappointed to find that it only made a marginal improvement. The other products that I tried over the next few years were even less effective so I got the Back to Black out again. This time I didn't stop at one application but rather applied it every time I walked by the car (and I remembered) over a period of weeks. Each application only made a small improvement but those small improvements add up so now the buttons look almost like new. I call this a win! - Thought I'd share...
Oh, Back to Black is marketed in more than one flavor. The stuff you want is kind of milky white in color and the package says "for all colors' someplace in the small print. Cheers- dj http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1632259954.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1632259987.jpg |
That stuff doesn't last more then a month. Less if it is in any sun.

Flame polishing worked for me, you need to take care when using this method but works on almost all plastic parts and can fade out scratches and fading.
Practice first on a sacrificial piece but the results can be amazing Before http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1637794537.jpg After http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1637794569.jpg |
