Das Boot...a fender bender story.

I feel like the U boat commander in the movie Das Boot. I drove my car through many a battle in traffic. I know how well the steering and ABS works when used at full tilt avoiding people who pull out in front the car, don't see the car, or simply drive crazy. Only to have it get backed into while parked by a negligent driver, on the passenger door. Bummer.

Now, I do have a question....
One place planned on the buff and paint.
A place that does Porsches said due to the door being creased to the point that the
reinforcing bar can be seen, (see pic) that the door needs to be replaced. Big $$$
Is this necessarily the case? Anyone who may have insight is invited to reply. Thanks Folks!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1601836998.jpg

If the integrity of the inner door structure is compromised in any way then you need a new door.
Safety and liability reasons.

If the inner door structure is untouched then just a new door skin.
That said many shops would rather replace a door then a door skin.
More money less work;)

I’ve seen many doors on part-outs. Easy fix, it would seem.

Get a door on eBay. You'll be back in the game in no time.

I have seen PDR guys do amazing work on sheet metal in worse shape. I have a PCA friend who has used this company on a Cayman. I have not personally used them.

I had a pro bang out ~20 little here and there dings for $225. It's amazing watching those dents/dings disappear. Far less costly than a body shop.

Does insurance know about the incident? Is this car now flagged as damaged goods?

Who is paying?

Used door, reuse all the non sheet metal bits from your car, have painted to match? Never perfect but at least restores safety.

Sure sorry.

The other guy's insurance is paying, and yes, the car will be flagged as damaged. Thanks for the condolences.

Just buy a good used door...you can likely find a perfect colour matched one too, if your's is original.

Wash, polish and wax and carry on.

There's not many 20 year old cars out there that haven't been tweaked and painted.

Don't sweat that.

If she was a show piece, then I see why you'd be extra-pissed.

Good luck sir!
