Seat Belt removal

Can I drive my 2006 987 with the seat belts removed; or will the airbags deploy when starting the car ?

My Indy is two blocks away and will remove the belts. They are going to be replaced in a week. Can't part the car at the shop, so I need to drive it back home while waiting for the new belt assemblies.

No, the airbags won’t deploy with the seatbelts out. The airbag light will come on when the reels are disconnected which will disable the system until it’s reset.

Thank you for that. Does the system reset upon installation of the new seatbelts ?

Be sure they deactivate the framis rod muffler bearings

well you can't drive without seatbelts legally.

Why don't they wait to remove the seatbelts until they have the replacements?
Why are the seatbelts being replaced?

I have to ship my belts with retractors; the vendor is changing the webbing from black to red.
The car will not be driven except to relocate 2 blocks away.

That would be the coolest anti-theft system ever. "Steal my car??? how about random claymore to the face" :D

that makes sense
I am fairly sure you will be OK.

In any case, the airbags will not deploy except maybe in an accident.

YMMV

What belts are you replacing them with?

See:. https://seatbeltrestore.com/webbing-replacement/custom-color-seat-belts

There are several vendors that off replacement webbing for about the same price and same turn around time.

When the airbag wiring circuit is interrupted and the car powered on, it would need reset with a PIWIS/PST2 or Durametric or the like.

Hmm...so doing it myself in the garage will eliminate the reset procedure. I’ve watched several YouTube videos on seatbelt removal. Any tips/cautions from anyone who has done the R/R ?

OK. Blinker fluid. Muffler bearings. Winter/Summer tire air, lol.

I believe that once you power the car on, without seatbelts installed, the air bag light will come on, and not turn off until cleared via a Durametric, PST2, etc.
