Replacement lenticular lenses

Have been trying to source replacement lenticular lenses for the halogens to replace my burnt ones , have heard that there are 2 types??. Is this correct or are all halogen lenses interchangeable for 1998-2004 models ? Have sourced 2 sets of complete housings with clear lenses but can't match up numbers . Mine are numbered 1 305 614 305 and 1 305 614 304 and have a a levelling tab on inboard side (see pic) Any advice appreciated http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1596913573.jpg

There are no official replacement lens. I think you heard wrong. You will either have to replace the headlight, mod the headlight with projector lens, leave it as is, or source the lens like on eBay and fix it. There are a few variants of the amber and the clear headlights so make sure they match if you purchase the headlights separately.

The #1 cause is a high wattage H7 bulb that's higher than 55w. Some have been successful without issues. It's good to wipe the headlight with some UV protector (like wax) after a car wash to prolong the lens from yellowing.

Actually, that is not entirely correct.

Sierra Madre Collection out of California makes replacement lens for halogen lights for 986/996.

I tried to post a link, but the site blocks it out. Google is your friend.

However, they may not work for your lights, as you have the little tabs for leveling. I believe these replacement lens are half moon, vs ours that are a full round.

You may want to contact them to be sure.

Otherwise, you're in the same boat as me and need to go for a retro fit. That's a "to do" for my car. Damned daytime running lights!

Hey Seal, the Sierra Madre you point out to are not official replacements as I stated. They are aftermarket and is cater to the European model 986/996 headlights and that is why they do not have the leveling tabs as it was intended for RHD. It is not DOT certified. Our headlights are not half moon. It is T shape for the Halogen version in the US. If you want to know more about headlights, ParticleWaves is your go to guy around here.

Can the inside of those lenses be polished? Polish out the yellow?

JFS986 08-09-2020 10:27 AM

Thanks to all for your comments. Can't polish out the yellow as the lenses have cracks too. Checked out sierra madre but don't think they will fit as the photos they show online are half moon shaped, messaged them and they weren't sure . Sooooo.. looks like I will try to match up the used ones I found on kijiji as they are from Canadian cars so will match up headlight #s or do the HID upgrade , thanks again for the input

Unfortunately we cannot polish that inner lens because of how thin it is. Most of the lens aren't recoverable because of the melted plastic caused by high wattage bulbs. If you're going to pry open your headlight instead of replacing it as a whole then it's worth the extra effort to mod it. Just make sure it follows your state laws when the modification is done.

The mod will shave off years to your car and you'll have brighter headlights now. Here's the most recent thread regarding a headlight modification. The most popular is Fred's projectors around here.

Well he asked if there's replacement options...too bad Sierra Madre hasn't figured out to copy a US lens. I imagine they'd corner the market on replacement lens in the USA.

Options?

Find good used halogens and replace, open your wallet and buy used litronics, buy those Extreme Motorcar lights (paging Particlewave for his opinion on them...:D) or crack them open and retro fit.

I'm planning the retrofit myself. Damned DRLs.

And I agree with you...its doubtful you could polish that out, but has anyone even tried?

Just curious.
