How to replace brake light switch, cannot get new one to go in. Help

I got advice from members here that maybe my brake lights not working could be the brake light switch.
I stopped by the dealer on the way home and picked up a switch. Indeed that was all it was as I saw the lights work when testing it.
Problem is I cannot get the switch back in, I tried for over an hour and actually broke the switch apart trying to twist it on. I was able reinsert the spring and clip the top of it back to the bottom. I even tried a open end wrench the size of the plug pushed on the end to it was seated but I cannot get it to twist on.
I can get it just barely started and pushed in and it will hold recessed into the slot but it will not turn either way to lock it in place.

It's so confined under there and I cannot get a good grip to get it in. The wrench would work perfect but the are is just too small to work in.

Just seeing for those who've changed it, if there's any tricks to get it to turn and lock in place before I take it to the dealer and have them do it.
Thankshttp://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1592918958.jpg

Hi Jasper,

You can take a nail file or an exacto knife and shave a little bit off of those tabs to get it to twist into place. It doesn't take too much and it will hold in place quite nicely

Good luck

Thank you so much for the tip, I used a box cutter and shaved a tiny bit off each tab. Basically the tabs come to a hooked point and I shaved the point off on each end.
It took just a firm twist and twisted right in.
Now that it's in, it will wiggle left/right just a tab but will not untwist.
Thanks again, brake light working again :)
