Very good, it was a 99 Trans Am LS-1 6-speed. One car accident extreme speed. It spent alot of time in the air, I mean alot of time.

Grizzly 10-17-2006 07:16 PM

I noticed you said there'd be no one to prosecute. Did the passenger check out as well?

ohioboxster 10-17-2006 07:18 PM

By now I would say yes.

kabel 10-17-2006 07:27 PM

This crash just happened about two days ago. Our feeling is there was no alcohol involved but we have to wait for toxicology. The seatbelt comment was harsh, this is someones children that died here. Im not going to joke about kids getting killed. We were all kids at one time that probably drove too fast some I imagine still do.

This is one of the reasons why I want to introduce my son to any kind of motorsports. That way he can explore the limits of a car in a somewhat controlled environment and not on the street. I don't know about others here but once I started Autocrossing I started respecting the car and understanding not only the cars limits but my own as a driver. This has made me a rather conservative driver on the streets and less willing to take chances.

From the extent of the damage, I'm surprised the cockpit is in such good condition. Goes to show crumple zones can work?!?

Auto accidents are an unfortunate fact of our society, I just hope they are fewer as technology advances, and people become more responsible (drink/speed) :(

ohioboxster 10-19-2006 01:08 AM

The black box in the car told us all kinds of stuff like throtle position, speed, when bags deployed etc. You would be amazed at the things your car stores.

Uncle Bob 10-19-2006 03:10 AM

Was it a single driver with no passenger?
OK, I'm not sure, was it a fatal?
I ask, because I show this stuff to my 17 yr old. Pics say alot, thanks for posting!

Rail26 10-19-2006 04:34 AM

No kidding...I was scared of the cockpit voice recorder in my airplane because I thought they downloaded those on a regular basis. After I figured out they only use it when you really f*&^ up then it was ok. Now I have to worry about my car telling on me....I wish big brother would go away. Just another way the lawyers can go after the deceased estates, family members...etc. Sorry for the dig, my best friend is a lawyer, but in this litigious (word?) society...lawyers are like chronic masturbators in charge of a lady's dressing room.

One fatal so far and there were two occupants. Both were ejected, I was surprised how well the cockpit held up too. The Trans Am was a convertible and the top was closed when the crash occured. This car broke branches 27' in the air, not a misprint.
